Small Business of the Year- House of Clocks

The Lodi District Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the 2019 Small Business of the Year: House of Clocks. The Chamber Board of Directors deliberated and chose both the Small Business of the Year and Business of the Year at their final Board Meeting of 2019. “We are so honored and humbled by the news of our Chamber voting us Small Business of the Year,” said owner Sandy Hohn. “We are so very fortunate for our wonderful customers who have become friends through the years and are proud to carry on what Marie and Joe Hohn started almost 50 years ago.”

The story begins in 1944 when Joe Hohn was recruited into the United States Army. After his first deployment to Germany, he returned to the United States and was stationed at the same base as Marie- they met, fell in love, and married in 1952. After they were married, Joe received orders to return to Nuremberg, a city in Germany that was still reeling from bombings during World War II. Because he was fluent in the language, he became a part of the refugee program in the region. While there, they visited his relatives who owned a home that belonged to his great and great-great grandparents. His relative gifted him a clock, one that had been on the wall of their familial home for over 60 years. It was a Gustav Becker. Becker was a prolific clock maker who lost his inventory during the bombings of World War I. Acquiring this piece started Joe and Marie’s love of antique clocks and drive to open their business in Downtown Lodi.

House of Clocks has been serving Northern California since 1970. They are a leading business in clock sales, repairs, and restorations. They specialize in one-of-a-kind clocks including cuckoo clocks, grandfather clocks, mantel pieces, and antiques. You’ll see brands from Howard Millers to Hermle to LaCrosse in their store. Their team of horologists can repair antique clocks to working order- and they’re caring reputation is bar none. Lodi Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Pat Patrick said, “I was beyond happy with the Board’s choice in House of Clocks. They are a rare, rare gem in today’s trade- a second generation, family owned business who’s specialties service all of Northern California. We have had people come to Downtown Lodi just to visit their shop! Congratulations to Joe, Marie, Sandy, Chuck and Steven, this is a well-deserved award.”
